چکیده

The Internet backbone of many corporations carries two kinds of traffic: urgent and delayable. Shifting some traffic from peak periods to valleys reduces capacity requirements. We consider the case of managing the delayable traffic by an admission control (AC) system. AC gets link utilization feedback every τ seconds. Delayable opt-in sources obtain permission from AC to transmit for up to τ seconds at a rate not exceeding a limit imposed by AC, renewing permission as needed. Urgent traffic bypasses AC. AC must allocate bandwidth to competing delayable traffic sources. We prove that among all throttling transformations of flows that achieve a desired mean aggregate flow, rate limits on flows minimize the variance of their sum. Furthermore, a single rate limit common to all flows achieves the optimum. Thus, for a single link, AC must decide on a single rate limit for all delayable sources in each τ -second cycle. We evaluate different policies that set the rate limit dynamically in an empirical setting using netflow records on a link on the backbone of Yahoo!. Using historical data, we also derive the best possible reduction in capacity of this link using a closed-form solution to an assignment problem. We show that AC achieves capacity reduction close to the best possible reduction. J. Langford Yahoo! Research, New York Tel.: 1-212-571-8151 Fax: 1-212-571-4490 E-mail: [email protected] L. Li Yahoo! A Novel Admission Control Model in Cloud Computing

With the rapid development of Cloud computing technologies and wide adopt of Cloud services and applications, QoS provisioning in Clouds becomes an important research topic. In this paper, we propose an admission control mechanism for Cloud computing. In particular we consider the high volume of simultaneous requests for Cloud services and develop admission control for aggregated traffic flows ...

A Novel Method for VANET Improvement using Cloud Computing

In this paper, we present a novel algorithm for VANET using cloud computing. We accomplish processing, routing and traffic control in a centralized and parallel way by adding one or more server to the network. Each car or node is considered a Client, in such a manner that routing, traffic control, getting information from client and data processing and storing are performed by one or more serve...

Definition and Performance Evaluation of a Distributed and Stateless Algorithm for QoS Support in IP Domains with Heterogeneous Traffic

Distributed Admission Control in IP DiffServ environments is an emerging and promising research area. Distributed admission control solutions share the idea that no coordination among network routers (i.e. explicit signaling) is necessary, when the decision whether to admit or reject a new offered flow is pushed to the edge of the IP network. Proposed solutions differ in the degree of complexit...
